We create and develop “Saltaire Scientists” who have the chance to explore and investigate their own surroundings, plan their own investigations, take part in hands on experiments and workshops, enjoy visits and visitors, research and know about famous scientists and the impact they have had on the world and to experience rich scientific vocabulary to enable them to “Speak like a Scientist”. Children are encouraged to question the world around them and become independent learners in exploring possible answers for their scientific based questions. Scientific enquiry skills are embedded in each topic the children study and many of these topics are revisited and developed throughout their time at school. This allows children to build upon their prior knowledge and increases their enthusiasm whilst embedding this procedural knowledge into the long-term memory.
